Flaming Lips, Los Lobos, moe. and DJ Spooky Free in D.C.

National Mall

Earth Day Network and Green Apple Music Festival have announced a fantastic lineup for their 2009 Earth Day Celebration on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Starting at noon on Sunday, April 19, actor Chevy Chase will emcee a free daylong event featuring music from The Flaming Lips, Los Lobos, moe., and DJ Spooky.

The Flaming Lips didn’t alter their confetti-dropping, balloon-popping ways for the enviro-conscious ECHO Project Festival in late 2007, so one point of interest will be whether or not the band has devised a new stage show and if it will be any friendlier to the environment.

The event will also feature speakers and Earth Day reverie of all types. In addition to the music, Kathleen Rogers (President of Earth Day Network), actor Matthew Modine, Philippe Cousteau, Gene Karpinksi of the League of Conservation Voters, Dr. Amy Vedder (Senior Vice President, Wilderness Society) and Rep. Edward Markey (U.S. House) will appear.

Go HERE for more on the event, and check out the main Green Apple page for info on how you can get involved during Earth Day Weekend.
