Phish added two more dates to their Summer 2009 tour today, and one of the shows is bound to be a home run.
The band will perform their first ever show at a Major League Baseball stadium on May 31st at Boston’s Fenway Park. This highly anticipated and unique show will now be the first show of the tour. An added factor will certainly be the town itself, as Boston was Phish’s “second home” during their earliest days.
The other new date is June 2nd at Nikon Jones Beach, which makes for an odd 3-night stand over 4 nights at the New York venue on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th. There currently is no show scheduled for June 3rd.
2009 will be an unusually interesting year for the band, venue-wise. With the beloved Hampton Coliseum having served as their reunion venue, the band will now perform at the one-of-a-kind Red Rocks (July 30 – August 2), the venerable Merriweather Post Pavilion (August 15), Chicago’s Toyota Park soccer stadium (August 11), and the Bonnaroo Music Festival (June 12 & 14). They will also perform at relatively tiny venues like Asheville, North Carolina’s Civic Center (June 9) and St. Louis’ Fox Theatre (June 16).
